I media inglesi danno ampio risalto, con articoli ed approfondimenti, alle elezioni politiche italiane soffermandosi soprattutto sui due principali protagonisti, Berlusconi e Veltroni, senza quasi considerare i candidati minori. Lo fa anche il sito BBC News che si limita come gli altri a parlare del miliardario Berlusconi e dell'ex comunista Veltroni. Quale che sia l'esito delle elezioni si annunciano comunque tempi duri per l'Italia: Correspondents say that whichever candidate is declared the winner, both know a period of painful political and economic reforms is essential and unavoidable (BBC News).

L'Economist pone l'accento sugli sforzi di Silvio Berlusconi e Walter Veltroni a dissipare il sospetto di una futura possibilità a governare insieme in caso di un pareggio definito probabile a causa della disordinata legge elettorale voluta nel 2005 dall'allora governo Berlusconi, ma nonostante le smentite il governo di larghe intese viene dato per plausibile. Il prestigioso settimanale giudica come un grave errore l'attacco di Berlusconi che ha definito fuori di testa Totti per aver annunciato il suo sostegno al Partito Democratico.

Il Financial Times riferendosi all'ultima fase della campagna elettorale scrive dei recenti attacchi di Berlusconi alla magistratura e dei suoi sospetti che la parte avversa ricorrerà ai brogli pur di vincere. His media outlets have also alleged that overseas voting could be rigged, while Umberto Bossi, leader of the rightwing Northern League, has spoken of possibly “taking up arms” to stop Rome from making an electoral mess. Mr Veltroni, who has tried to maintain an image of staid respectability, called on Mr Berlusconi to commit himself to uphold national unity, refrain from violence and respect the constitution (Financial Times).

Il Guardian: An Italian senator and top aide to Silvio Berlusconi has been forced to deny reports linking him to an alleged Mafia-run plan to hand Berlusconi 50,000 fraudulent votes, as voting gets under way today in the Italian elections. Il riferimento è a Marcello dell'Utri, coinvolto lui sì in un'inchiesta sui brogli elettorali: secondo l'accusa molti italiani all'estero sarebbero stati contattati per vendere agli emissari della 'ndrangheta le schede ancora non votate pervenute loro per posta e ancora da rispedire ai consolati con l'espressione del voto. Dopo aver parlato dettagliatamente della vicenda il Guardian conclude: Alla fine del suo secondo mandato come primo ministro, tra il 2001 e il 2005, Berlusconi ha cambiato la legge elettorale per consentire italiani residenti all'estero di eleggere sei senatori e 12 deputati parlamentari.

The Independent dedica invece un ampio articolo a Daniela Santanchè ed alla sfida della candidata de La Destra a Silvio Berlusconi. Così l'Independent conclude il suo articolo: While his rival, Mr Veltroni, leader of the centre-left Democratic Party, has soberly criss-crossed the country, denouncing the Mafia and calling for Italy to turn over a new leaf, Mr Berlusconi has addressed small, ageing crowds, many bussed in to fill the seats, saying "anything that comes into his head", as one commentator put it, and bemoaning his fate. The magic has deserted him. But it took the flashing eyes of a beautiful woman to spell out the extent of his humiliation.

Alcuni aspetti della campagna elettorale italiana sono stati analizzati anche dal Sunday Times che nel titolo definisce Berlusconi il grande seduttore. Riferendosi al viaggio in pullman di Walter Veltroni, il Times aggiunge: It is hard to imagine Berlusconi the media mogul aboard an ordinary bus. His Airbus 319, originally designed for business-class travellers to New York, has only 48 seats compared with the usual 115, and bears the logo of his Fininvest family holding company on its tail and the Italian flag on its wingtips. A large Louis Vuitton suitcase stamped with his monogram in gold follows him aboard. Il Times chiude con le citazioni di alcune "massime" di Berlusconi:
